What is Happening to these Marigold Leaves?

What causes the leaves to turn purplish-red? Not enough phosphorus.

The plants in the bed closest to the parking lot were planted in mostly sand and aren’t getting enough nutrients – particularly phosphorus.  To remedy the situation, I will be redoing this bed and adding compost to make it a better growing environment. That should do it. If you have a question about something going on in your plot, leave a comment and I will try to help – Natalie Walsh, Master Gardener
